What to Expect at one of these events
At these events, we provide a specially-designated Autism Friendly Area. This space is quieter, calmer and set apart from the busiest parts of the event so that individuals who may be sensitive to crowds, noise, or sensory overload can still enjoy the event comfortably.
In the Autism Friendly Area, you’ll find:
• A covered, quieter viewing space for parades and performances, where you can take time out if the event becomes overwhelming.
• Seating and room to move at your own pace.
• Sensory supports such as bean bags, sensory boxes, ear defenders and chill-out areas at selected festival events.
Support on the Day
Members of the Autism Friendly Killarney Committee will be present in the Autism Friendly Areas during events. They are available to offer assistance, information and reassurance to individuals and families as needed.
Committee members can be easily identified as they will be wearing: High-visibility jackets or blue coats displaying the Autism Friendly Killarney logo
Please feel free to approach any committee member if you need support, directions or have questions during the event.
Planning Your Visit
Where possible, event information and visual guides will be shared in advance to help visitors know what to expect, including timings, routes and sensory elements. Some events may also offer quiet times with reduced noise and activity.
We welcome feedback and suggestions as we continue to develop our autism-friendly supports. If you have any questions before attending an event, please contact us – we are happy to help you plan your visit.
